Acupuncture in Johnston
Our practice takes an evidence-based approach to pain-relief and wellness care. In addition to chiropractic care and physiotherapy, The Chiropractic Health & Wellness Clinic offers acupuncture to ensure our patients receive the whole-body care they deserve.
If you can believe it, acupuncture has a history spanning over 3,000 years. It is used to ignite healing and resolve a range of complaints, from back pain to migraines. When blended with chiropractic care, acupuncture has been known to encourage faster healing and quick relief.
How It Works
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the skin to stimulate targeted areas. This direct signal strengthens blood flow, reduces inflammation, and alleviates overall pain and discomfort.
Whether utilized alone or in combination with chiropractic care, acupuncture gently prompts the nervous system to release healthy chemicals—ultimately, restoring the spine, brain, and muscles and facilitating ongoing wellness.
Four Components of TCM
Traditional Chinese Medicine has four components
Dr. Giddings is an expert in traditional Chinese martial arts. He is the Sifu (lead instructor) and owner of Shadow Fist Kung Fu & Tai Chi in Windsor Heights, Iowa. He has studied kung fu and tai chi since 1998. He is internationally certified, competed and trained internationally and has even been featured on instructional videos sold worldwide. He begins all tai chi classes with Qi Gong exercises. All of his kung fu classes feature Chin’-Na or joint locks (similar to T’ui-Na). His practice of acupuncture as well as a tai chi/Qi Gong instructor brings his practice of TCM full-circle, applying all 4 pillars.
Is Acupuncture Right for Me?
Our practice is here to help you meet your needs and goals. Dr. Aaron Giddings customizes his approach per each patient’s unique needs.
Acupuncture is recommended for adults of all ages, particularly those suffering from chronic conditions, such as:
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Arthritis
- Anxiety
Preparing for Your Visit
Upon arrival, you will meet with Dr. Giddings to review your new patient paperwork and discuss your concerns. If acupuncture is compatible with your needs, we will perform a brief meridian scan using a unique tool called the Acugraph as well as complete a focused exam. Dr. Giddings will then discuss recommendations, suggest frequency and duration of care and begin your session.
What is Acugraph?
AcuGraph meridian testing uses a sensor to measure resistance in electric current in specific acupuncture points in the hands and feet. This resistance can point to blockages or other imbalances. Modern AcuGraph systems also use a pressure sensor to enhance its accuracy.
Comfortable, Relaxing Recovery
We understand that those new to acupuncture may feel hesitant about beginning. Our practice is committed to guiding you through the process and helping you remain calm during needle placement.
Rest assured, acupuncture needles are significantly thinner than injection needles and nearly painless upon insertion. In fact, many patients report feeling comfortable and relaxed during their sessions.
Please note that if you do not prefer needles, we also offer electrical acupuncture to stimulate trigger points without penetrating the skin.
